"It was wonderful to see the enthusiastic turnout at the MWC Run in aid of Nanhi Kali which is gaining momentum and also finding an important place on Chennai's cultural calendar. Our goal was not only to raise money in aid of the girl child but also in the process encourage residents and employees within MWC to meet and interact with each other and create a strong sense of community. This event, along with other cultural and community building events, is expected to enhance the liveability within MWC said Mr S Chandru, COO, Mahindra World City Developers Ltd.

"A big thank you to Mahindra World City and all those who participated for their invaluable contribution. The funds raised through this unique event will go a long way in helping to educate young girls enrolled with the Nanhi Kali programme. 98,000 school going girls currently benefit from the Project and events such as the MWC Marathon will help us substantially expand the scope of our activities," said Sheetal Mehta, Executive Director, K. C. Mahindra Education Trust.

Nanhi Kali is jointly managed by the Naandi Foundation and the KC Mahindra Education Trust. The primary objective of the Foundation is to provide quality education to girl children from economically disadvantaged families. Launched in 1996, Project Nanhi Kali believes that educating a girl child leads to reduction in child and maternal mortality, improvement in child nutrition and health, lower fertility rates, better economic production, and female empowerment. Through Nanhi Kali, the Mahindra Group hopes to play a small but significant role in shaping India's future by empowering girls through education. Nanhi Kali sponsorships provide under-privileged girls with academic support (after-school study classes) and material support including uniforms, school bags, shoes, socks, etc. to enable them to attend school with dignity. The Nanhi Kali project provides educational support to 98,000 underprivileged girls across 9 Indian states. The Mahindra Group alone supports the education of 35,000 Nanhi Kalis through direct monetary donations.
