Sustainability continues to be the core philosophy of Mahindra Lifespaces with the Companyâ€™s mission of â€˜transforming urban landscapes by creating sustainable communitiesâ€™. Our participation in the C-40 Cities Climate Positive Development Program (CPDP) is in line with this mission of being in the forefront of sustainable urbanization in India.

On May 19,2009 in Seoul, The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI), a project of the William J. Clinton Foundation, announced a global program developed in collaboration with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), called the Climate Positive Development Program. (CPDP) - a performance-based framework designed to create models for how cities can grow in low carbon ways, it aims to create large-scale models and global good-practice examples of urban development that help mitigate climate change by reducing carbon emissions in an economically sustainable manner. CPDP developers seek to meet a â€˜climate positiveâ€™ emissions target of net-negative on-site, operational greenhouse gas emissions. Mahindra World City Jaipur (MWCJ) was one of the sixteen founding projects across the world that partnered and participated in the CPDP.

On World Environment Day â€“ 5th June 2015, MWCJ became the first project in Asia to receive Stage 2 Climate Positive Development certification from the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40). In recognition of this milestone, President of the C40 Board and UN Secretary-Generalâ€™s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change Michael R. Bloomberg presented a commemorative plaque to Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group at Bloomberg LP in New York City. The Stage 2 Climate Positive recognition is given to those developers who have successfully created detailed plans for how they will reduce energy, waste and transportation related carbon emissions onsite and expand the impact to the surrounding community in order to achieve a Climate Positive outcome.

1. Efficient use of energy - Buildings:

Ensure development of energy efficient buildings (green buildings) on site with total minimum required operational savings of 25% against conventional structures. We have been awarded for exceptional performance above requirements set by the IGBC Green SEZ Rating System and for innovative performance in Green Building categories.
2. Use of LED energy efficient street lighting (Within MWCJ Site):

LED Street Lighting is 50% more efficient than conventional metal halide lamps. The same has already been implemented at MWCJ Site Office. A total of 618 LED Street Lights have been installed within MWCJ Campus as on 31st March 2017.
3. Use of LED energy efficient lighting (Neighboring Communities):

Under this initiative, of Sustainable Growth, MWCJ extended this step for sustainable development for our neighboring communities, for propagation for efficient lighting for energy saving and neutralizing carbon footprint. We are under took the project for LED tube lights installation in neighboring villages. This project was started in FY15-16 by installing LED Tube Lights in 800 homes in 3 villages (Bhambhoriya, Jhai & Bagru Khurd). As on 31st July 2017 we have successfully installed 3000 LED Tube Lights in SEVEN Villages including TWO Street Poles with LED Tube Lights at two village chowks.
4. Energy Impact Initiatives Implemented:

a) Installation of Solar PV by Mahindra Susten
From 2012 till date 61.9 MW has been installed in Rajasthan apart from MWC Jaipur
Estimated annual Energy savings:
232750 MWh
Estimated annual reduction in CO2 emissions:
181545 tonnes.

b) Installation of Solar PV
The roof top at â€˜Evolveâ€™ (IT Park at MWCJ) has 210 kWp and that of Infosys has 800 kWp Solar PV installed and operational and 250 KWP is in execution, Ranka paper has installed 100 KWP solar PV installed
Estimated annual Energy savings:
1625 MWH
Estimated annual reduction in CO2 emissions:
1267 tonnes.

c) Retrofitting of lighting fixtures at Evolve (IT Park at MWCJ)
Reduction in electricity consumption at evolve building, through LED retrofit.
Estimated annual Energy savings:
99,450 kWh
Estimated annual reduction in CO2 emissions:
77.57 tonnes.

Vocational Skill Development

MWCJ has partnered with Technology Business Incubator-KIET to design skill development programmes and create knowledge-based enterprises. The skill development training includes sessions on security, computer basics, English-speaking classes, mobile and automobile repairing and learning housekeeping. The number of training sessions conducted as of September 30 was 1,090.

Womenâ€™s Empowerment

MWCJ provides vocational and skill training to women. Self-help groups (SHG) are formed for rural women and they are trained in stitching and taught how to become beauticians. Basic primary education is provided. Overall, 90 SHGs have been formed comprising 925 women.

Mahindra Hariyali Tree Plantation Drive

This initiative endeavours to tackle the twin challenges of climate change and sustainability. The passion and enthusiam of the employees, who work in tandem with business partners, NGO's and government agencies has resulted in a total of planting 62,000 tress till date.

Mukya Mantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan

MWCJ has collaborated with the government of Rajasthan for their project on water sustainability in the state. It aims to make villages self-reliant even during drought periods by providing a permanent solution to the availability of drinking water. Fifteen villages have been identified for this project around the MWCJ campus.

Mid-Day Meals

MWCJ, in association with the Akshay Patra Foundation, provides mid-day meals at government schools in the vicinity of MWCJ. The meal is an incentive for children to continue their education. It helps reduce the dropout rate to an enormous extent and increases classroom attendance.

Medical Camps

Under the preventive medical health-care initiatives, MWCJ conducts medical camps in the neighbouring villages to monitor health and malnutrition concerns. Every year, three to four medical camps are conducted which include eye camps, dental camps and blood donation drives. The No. of beneficiaries is around 4,583 people per camp.

Clean India Campaign

The aim is of creating awareness about keeping the surrondings clean, prevent using plastic, tips on waste management are given to rural community in and around the MWCJ Campus. MWCJ has announced itself single use plastic free on December 2019. 29 Toilets has been consturcted in Govt. Schools and Public places.Sanitation concerns have led to the construction of toilets.
